Pisa, Italy, August, 22, 2011

Princess has the most organized and easy to follow excursions.  On our ticket was printed a meeting place, usually in the theater, and a time.  You wait in the air conditioning on comfortable chairs! When they call your group, they lead you down the gangway and deliver you directly to your tour guide and bus.  No hassle, no finding your group, no standing in the heat.  It was like a well oiled machine.  Today's a big day for us with our first stop in Pisa.

The bus dropped us off approximately 8 blocks from the site, since parking is a huge issue in Europe.  On our walk I shot these photos.

They are everywhere.

The site called the Field of Miracles houses the Duomo (church), the baptistry and the bell tower.  The tower was designed to be straight but started to lean during construction in 1173, apparently due to the soft soil it was built on.  It was finished over 200 years later due to wars and debt.  The complex is so beautiful it looks artificial, how can anything so old appear so pristine?
Hercules
What's wrong with this picture? He's pushing it over.

Isn't it stunning?

Gary focused on me instead of the tower.  He's sweet.

The baptistry and the duomo:

Rumor has it that if your lover gazes at the purple column in the church he would be faithful the rest of the day.  The tour guide suggested we take a picture and make them look at it daily.
On the third row from the top and third column from the right.

We spent about an hour taking photos and walking the grounds and then we headed for Florence which is about an hour and a half drive inland, through the heart of Tuscany.

I've divided Florence and Pisa into two separate pages, even though we did them on the same day.  Florence is up next.
